Wolverhampton Mountaineering Club
Club
magazine 2002 From ...Climbing on Desert Rock by Jane Clelford ...We planned
to do it the next day and an early start was essential as it was a 100
mile drive - much to Julian’s disdain. We got up at 5.30am the next morning,
and feeling very unfresh, journeyed into Colorado. The directions to the
crag were very misleading and it was only by chance that we found the
car park and entrance to the trailhead. I decided to climb wearing my
rucksack, as the route was six-pitches and water would definitely be needed.
Otto’s Route was a 5.8+ climb on Independent Monument. It took an hour’s
walk to reach the monument along a gradually inclining trail. I was convinced
we might see a rattlesnake today.
