This photo is of me, just after jumping out of an aeroplane from a height of
FOURTEEN THOUSAND FEET, and I'm smiling ! ! Being paraplegic made it no easier - nor
more difficult - than it would be for anyone else to do a tandem skydive. We freefell
for 50 seconds before opening the parachute at 5,000ft. A fantastic feeling. A funny
thing about tandem diving is that because you are both falling at the same rate, it
doesn't really feel as if there is someone on your back. In fact, I had to look back to
make sure the instructor had jumped out with me.
If you are a wheelchair user and you fancy the idea of Skydiving I would recommend you
contact Langar Airfield. They are very helpful and friendly and will give you excellent
advice.
Don't think that you can't do it. Think about HOW you CAN do it.
Very often the most unlikely seeming activities just require an open approach. If you are
wondering how a paraplegic manages to land during a tandem skydive the solution is simple.
Study the photo above, and you will see that our legs were taped together so that my feet
didn't touch the floor. Easy eh ! So, if you fancy it, go on, give it a go ! !
