The magnificent clubhouse was built and opened in 1971.This clubhouse forms the
heart of the Club with its superb facilities. The changing rooms have showers that
never seem to run cold. Downstairs there is the Wet Bar where the sailors can obtain
snacks, meals and drinks during their breaks from sailing.
The club has made an effort to improve wheelchair access
by installing ramps into most doorways.
The Bosun and his rescue team are allways really helpful and friendly.
Upstairs is the large lounge and bar with a panoramic
view of the water. This room is heart of the `apre sail` offering a choice of cask ales as
well as the usual bar drinks and meals at selected times. After the sailing this room is
buzzing with conversations among tired but contented sailors. This room also hosts the
various parties and socials that all help to make Draycote a friendly club.
The wheelchair access to the upstairs
area of the club is via a steep bit of driveway, but its not too bad if you can push well !
Once inside the upstairs area, all rooms are accessible. There is also
disabled toilet facillities. The club has a good shower room,
but there is not a shower dedicated to wheelchair users. (There are plans to improve this situation)
There is a large boat park, and racking
for about 200 sailboards. Despite this size there is a tremendous feeling of friendship
amongst the members as they rig and de-rig their craft. If you don`t feel like sailing one
day there is a 5 mile walk around the reservoir (subject to a Severn Trent permit). During
the winter months there are keep fit classes in the club lounge.
The safety of the sailors is looked after by our full time Bosun
and his team of experienced rescue boat drivers. They all have been trained to
certificate level and all hold First Aid Certificates, in the unlikely event of injury on the
site.
Draycote Water Sailing Club has so much to offer at all levels, too
much to tell you about here. If you want the full story, and a part of the sailing action at
one of the best clubs in the country, give them a ring for a friendly chat.
